Well, sometimes, you may came across such errors with these removable disks, that may make you believe that\u00a0\u00a0the disk has malfunctioned and can\u2019t be used at all. Today, in this article, we\u2019ll discuss on such scenario I recently faced with a\u00a0<em>USB<\/em>\u00a0Drive. Actually, whenever I plug that drive and perform any operation with this drive results in following error:<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color: #000000;\">The disk is write-protected. Remove the write-protection or use another disk.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><!--more-->Obviously, the\u00a0<em>Try again<\/em>\u00a0button shown in above error box does nothing significant to fix the hitch. Due to this, you might feel that the disk is not usable and you should throw it to dustbin. But wait! If you\u2019re really going to do so, why not try something to make this disk again this writable. Here are the two fixes you can try to make your\u00a0<em>USB<\/em>\u00a0drive working again:<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"color: #000000;\">The Disk Is Write-Protected<\/h2>\n<h4 style=\"color: #000000;\">FIX 1<\/h4>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>1.<\/strong>\u00a0Press\u00a0<strong>Windows Key + R<\/strong>\u00a0combination, type put\u00a0<strong>regedit<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Run<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box and hit\u00a0<em>Enter<\/em>\u00a0to open the<em>\u00a0Registry Editor.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>2.<\/strong>\u00a0In the left pane, navigate here:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: #000000;\"><p><strong>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>3.<\/strong>\u00a0In the left pane of this location, right click<em>\u00a0Control<\/em>\u00a0key and select\u00a0<strong>New<\/strong>\u00a0-&gt;<strong>\u00a0Key<\/strong>. Name the new sub-key so created as<strong>StorageDevicePolicies<\/strong>. Now come to the right pane of this sub-key i.e.\u00a0<em>StorageDevicePolicies<\/em>, right click and select\u00a0<strong>New<\/strong>-&gt;\u00a0<strong>DWORD Value<\/strong>. Name the newly created\u00a0<em>DWORD<\/em>\u00a0as\u00a0<strong>WriteProtect<\/strong>. In some cases, you might find that this\u00a0<em>DWORD<\/em>under the sub-key already exists and the\u00a0<em>DWORD<\/em>\u00a0has a\u00a0<em>Value<\/em>\u00a0set to\u00a0<strong>1<\/strong>. Double click on the\u00a0<em>DWORD<\/em>\u00a0to modify its\u00a0<em>Value data<\/em>:<\/p>\n<div style=\"color: #000000;\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>4.<\/strong>\u00a0In the above shown box, change the\u00a0<em>Value data<\/em>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>0<\/strong>\u00a0from 1. Click\u00a0<strong>OK<\/strong>. Close the\u00a0<em>Registry Editor<\/em>\u00a0and check if the issue is resolved, else try\u00a0<em>FIX 2<\/em>\u00a0mentioned below.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"color: #000000;\">FIX 2<\/h4>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>1.<\/strong>\u00a0Open\u00a0<em>administrative Command Prompt<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>2.<\/strong>\u00a0Type these commands one by one and press\u00a0<em>Enter<\/em>\u00a0key after each:<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>diskpart<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>list disk<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>select disk #<\/strong>\u00a0<em>(# is the number of USB drive with which you\u2019re getting error and is plugged in, see screenshot below)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>attributes disk clear readonly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">You may now close\u00a0<em>Command Prompt<\/em>\u00a0and re-plug the\u00a0<em>USB<\/em>\u00a0drive and check if the issue is resolved.
