You can do that without reinstalling your Windows XP. I will choose the driver to install<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/expertester.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/07\/02.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" onerror=\"this.src='https:\/\/tom.tomwork.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/no-picture-available-icon-1.png'\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-235\" src=\"http:\/\/expertester.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/07\/02.png?w=300&amp;h=233\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>\n<ul>\n<li>Have Disk<\/li>\n<li>use AHCI driver (provided by manufacturer or download from net), in my case Acer 4530 provide AHCI driver for WinXP<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/expertester.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/07\/03.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" onerror=\"this.src='https:\/\/tom.tomwork.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/no-picture-available-icon-1.png'\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-236\" src=\"http:\/\/expertester.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/07\/03.png?w=300&amp;h=210\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/expertester.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/07\/04.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" onerror=\"this.src='https:\/\/tom.tomwork.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/no-picture-available-icon-1.png'\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-237\" src=\"http:\/\/expertester.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/07\/04.png?w=300&amp;h=233\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Then, restart your computer\/notebook<\/li>\n<li>Enter BIOS (F2 usually for most notebook or DEL for most PC)<\/li>\n<li>Change your SATA Mode to AHCI (instead of IDE)<\/li>\n<li>Start your Computer (Windows)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Done.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014-<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Alternative Solution &#8211; Credit to Steve<\/p>\n<p>I took a slightly different approach.<br \/>\n1) Get SATA drivers for Windows (whatever flavour you use)<br \/>\n2) Control Panel, Add New Hardware.<br \/>\n3) Yes, already connected, browse to the bottom, hit \u201cadd a new device\u201d<br \/>\n4) No, point it to the directory of your SATA drivers<br \/>\n5) Choose your driver from the list that returns. (Mine was the nVidia SATA controller)<br \/>\n6) Uninstall other standard IDE controllers.<br \/>\n7) Reboot and enter your BIOS<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" onerror=\"this.src='https:\/\/tom.tomwork.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/no-picture-available-icon-1.png'\" class=\"wp-smiley\" src=\"http:\/\/s.wordpress.com\/wp-includes\/images\/smilies\/icon_cool.gif\" alt=\"8)\" \/> Change to AHCI mode<br \/>\n9) Boot to Windows\u2026 which finds the *ACTUAL* AHCI controller, and installs the same driver as what you chose in step 5.<br \/>\n10) Windows wants to reboot. Do that.<br \/>\n11) Go to Device Manager and then uninstall the AHCI controller that<br \/>\nyou installed (there will be two or more now, but you want to get rid<br \/>\nof the one with the exclamation mark)<br \/>\n12) Success!<\/p>\n<p>That was a *LOT* easier than what I thought it would. After reading<br \/>\nmany guides on how to do it with Intel chipsets with home-made registry<br \/>\nentries and copying files around\u2026 Installing the driver manually as a<br \/>\n\u201cdummy\u201d effectively does all that for you anyway!<\/p>\n<p>Cheers people!
