Remote access to MS SQL Server 2005 with user and password is required and necessary for any database applications. If MS SQL Server 2005 is originally configured for windows authentication, configuration for remote access ( mixed mode or SQL Server authentication ) needs a little more extra work to get it done.<\/p>\n<p>Here is how to get this done.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Configuration in SQL Server Management Studio<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Click \u201cAll Programs\u201d -&gt; Click \u201cMicrosoft SQL Server 2005\u201d -&gt; click \u201cMicrosoft SQL Server Management Studio\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Log in to SQL Server 2005 with windows authentication or sa user;<\/p>\n<p>Highlight the server and right click \u201cProperties\u201d;<\/p>\n<p>Highlight \u201cSecurity\u201d\u00a0 -&gt; Under \u201cServer authentication\u201d,\u00a0 choose \u201cSQL Server and Windows authentication mode\u201d;<\/p>\n<p>Highlight \u201cConnections\u201d -&gt; Under \u201cRemote server connections\u201d,\u00a0 choose \u201cAllow remote connections to this server\u201d;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Click OK to save the settings.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Configuration in SQL Server Surface Area Configuration<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Click \u201cAll Programs\u201d -&gt; Click \u201cMicrosoft SQL Server 2005\u201d -&gt; click \u201cConfiguration Tools\u201d -&gt; click \u201cSQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Click \u201cSurface Area Configuration for Services and Connections\u201d -&gt; click \u201cMSSQLSERVER\u201d -&gt; click \u201cDatabase engine\u201d -&gt; click \u201cRemote connections \u201d -&gt; Under \u201cLocal and remote connections\u201d, choose \u201cUsing TCP\/IP only\u201d or other protocols.<\/p>\n<p>Click \u201cApply\u201d to save the settings.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Stop SQL server and restart SQL server<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Use \u201cSQL Server Management Studio\u201d or Services in Control Panel to stop SQL Server and then restart the SQL Server.
